Eindhoven has large Universities and many students. It takes some time for Dutch students to find suitable accommodation. Therefore they start finding rooms a long time before they start their studies. For foreign students it is often even more difficult to try and arrange accommodation from their country. Avoid being homeless for a longer period of time, contact Fontys' own accommodation agency for foreign students called the 'Fontys Accommodation Agency' (FAA).

Application for Fontys Accommodation Agency
Ask for the application form, fill in the form in time and pay the deposit.
The FAA will then try to find suitable accommodation for you. The contact person will notify you about the accommodation found, the price of the room, the facilities provided etc. The room wil1 then be reserved for you. You are obliged to notify the contact person if you are delayed, or if you are unable to come to The Netherlands at all. If you do not notify the FAA in time, there may be financial consequences, i.e. a penalty payment of one months' rent.

The Accommodation
The types of accommodation offered for students are usually student apartments or rooms in private homes; located either in, or nearby Eindhoven. The rooms are not big, starting from about +/- 6 m2. Rental prices range from Euro 225, - per month, and include gas, water and electricity services. Rooms are normally furnished with a bed, cupboard, chair and desk. Other facilities, such as the bathroom and toilet, are shared with other occupants. Use of the kitchen is always included in student apartments and is sometimes included in private homes.

In student apartments, it is customary to take turns in cooking for the whole group. ft is also customary to take turns in cleaning and washing-up. This is a nice way to get to know the other students and of course, to taste Dutch cooking.

In private homes, it is not always possible to make use of the kitchen during the week, but the landlord will usually make an exception at the weekend. If use of the kitchen is not included, it will be stated in the contract. If use of the kitchen is included, then an arrangement of acceptable times of use should be made with the landlord upon arrival.

If you smoke, please note that landlords do not always allow smoking in the rooms. If the landlord prefers a non-smoking occupant, this will be stated in the contract.

Medical Insurance
Checking in Medical insurance will have to be arranged beforehand.

Persons from the European Union can ask their insurance companies for an E111 form. E111 form is a health insurance form. This form is a document of proof that you have a health insurance coverage.

Students who have been placed at a company must inform there for insurance information.

Every foreign guest can apply for an Insurance passport for foreign students (IPS) at the Lippmann insurance (an extended travel insurance) for study tour or teaching practice.
